One of my kids made this “stained glass” in art class. It’s all the stained glass I’ll see this Easter, with churches shuttered. I’d like to say it’s enough, but I miss the rituals, symbols, and ceremony so in evidence in the Catholic Church. I miss singing with the choir.
But it’s going to have to be enough, this simple holiday. Our few voices in prayer. A meal together in lieu of Communion. Our health and home, when so many are suffering with much less.
I wish them, and you–all of us–peace and light, today. Happy Easter!

John, the young artist was just looking over my shoulder and reminded me that he made that glass to look like it has a burger in the middle. “See the two buns and the patty?” he said. Thought you’d appreciate that! We watched a little streaming Mass earlier–and I might check out the one from St. Patrick’s in NYC held earlier this afternoon. Then, there’s also Andrea Bocelli singing from the Duomo. I love that I can engage in the spiritual ceremony, even from afar, even if not the same. Happy Easter to you and your wife–enjoy!

I know. It’s just not the same at home. But there is comfort in the small and familiar things like you say. My parents waited up to hear the Pope’s Easter message on TV. Easter passed quietly for them too.

Yes, and I think, being a lifelong Catholic, I don’t always reflect on the abundance of ceremony I enjoy on the regular–or on that fact that it’s still Easter without it all. The small is still huge, for we’re saved over and over. Thank you, as always, for reading, and enjoy the rest of your holiday!

Thank you for reading. And, yes, I hope a healthier world is one ray of light that emerges from so much darkness.

Thank you, Deb! I hope you had a lovely day. We enjoyed our Easter–and I’m getting ready to listen to Andrea Bocelli lift his voice to the heavens, better than I could ever dream of doing. (And my little church choir is planning a Zoom rehearsal, something to look forward to.) You stay safe and well, too. Virtual hugs!

I hope you enjoyed your Easter, Shelley! I’m guessing there was a great meal, anyway. We’re all enjoying Easter Break this week without the boys’ remote schooling and hope to get in some more family games. Yesterday was Scrabble (and I won!).

Yes, I enjoyed the quiet Easter. We had a meal planned, but our Skype call went too long so I ended up tossing together a tuna salad sandwich. So … it was good, not great :-).
Way to win Scrabble!! I hope you’re having many more fun moments with the boys. Stay well and safe!
